Annual output of 1 GW! Xingran Technology’s 26,000㎡ PEM electrolyzer production base in Changzhou is set to be completed soon.

According to the latest update from the Changzhou Project Command of Xingran Technology, the construction of Xingran Technology’s Changzhou PEM electrolyzer production base is expected to be completed by the end of October 2024 and officially begin operations in January 2025. The total floor area of this production base reaches 26,000 square meters. Its primary product is a 250 standard cubic meter/hour PEM electrolyzer, which is modularly produced by packaging four individual cells into containerized units. Each container has a capacity of 1,000 standard cubic meters per hour. With an annual output capacity of 1 gigawatt, this PEM electrolyzer production base is currently the largest of its kind in China.

The cost of PEM hydrogen production has dropped significantly! Xingran Technology’s cost-reduction pathway for PEM water electrolysis hydrogen production.

Hydrogen production via water electrolysis is an important method for generating hydrogen energy, which involves splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. Among various technologies, hydrogen production using PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolysis boasts advantages such as high efficiency, low energy consumption, and zero pollution, making it highly promising for applications in the hydrogen energy sector. However, current PEM water electrolysis technology still faces certain challenges, such as relatively high costs. Therefore, reducing the cost of the hydrogen-producing membrane-electrode assembly is crucial for enhancing the competitiveness of PEM water electrolysis technology.

Is hydrogen production via water electrolysis cost-effective? Learn about PEM water electrolysis technology in just 1 minute!

PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) is the abbreviation for proton exchange membrane water electrolysis technology. Unlike alkaline water electrolysis for hydrogen production, PEM water electrolysis technology uses a proton exchange membrane as a solid electrolyte, replacing the diaphragm and liquid electrolyte—typically a 30% potassium hydroxide solution or a 26% sodium hydroxide solution—employed in conventional alkaline electrolyzers. Furthermore, PEM technology utilizes pure water as the feedstock for hydrogen production via water electrolysis, thereby avoiding potential issues of alkali contamination and corrosion.
